Equipment

  • 1 Crockpot
  • 1 Mixing bowl/Whisk

Ingredients

  • 6 frozen beef burger patties
  • 1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 8 oz sliced mushrooms, optional
  • 2 jars (12 oz each) beef gravy
  • 1 packet (0.87-1 oz) brown gravy mix
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Creamy mashed potatoes, for serving

Instructions

  • Spread a small amount of the beef gravy over the bottom of a 6-quart slow cooker.
  • Arrange the frozen burger patties in the slow cooker, layering the sliced onions and mushrooms between and around the patties.
  • In a bowl, whisk together the remaining beef gravy, dry brown gravy mix, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Do not add the water typically called for on the gravy packet.
  • Pour the gravy mixture evenly over the burger patties.
  • Cover and cook on HIGH for 3–4 hours, or until the burger patties reach 160°F in the center. For more even cooking, thaw the patties first if you plan to cook them on LOW.
  • Spoon the Salisbury steak and plenty of the onion-mushroom gravy over creamy mashed potatoes and serve hot.
  • Skip the extra salt until serving. The jarred gravy, gravy mix, and Worcestershire sauce already provide plenty of seasoning.
