Equipment
- 1 Crockpot
Ingredients
- 1 Pork Shoulder (or Pork Butt)
- 3-4 tbsp Pork Rub
- 2 cups BBQ Sauce, divided
- 1/2 can Cola, (Coke or Coke Zero)
Instructions
- Place the pork shoulder into the crockpot with the fat side facing up.
- Generously season all sides of the pork shoulder with the pork rub, pressing it gently into the meat so it sticks.
- Pour barbecue sauce over the top of the pork and spread it evenly to coat the surface, saving some sauce for later.
- Pour ½ can of cola into the bottom of the crockpot around the pork rather than directly on top.
- Cover the crockpot with the lid and cook on low for 8–10 hours or high for 5–6 hours, until the pork is very tender and easily pulls apart with a fork.
- Carefully remove the cooked pork from the crockpot and place it onto a large plate or cutting board. Use two forks to shred the pork into bite-sized pieces, removing any large pieces of fat if desired.
- Add the reserved barbecue sauce to the shredded pork and stir until evenly coated.
- Let the pork sit for a few minutes before serving so the juices settle and the color deepens.
